Congrats to our champions of the year

Members of the Streets For All steering committee at our Holiday Bash on December 13, 2025

Streets For All just wrapped up an amazing year of progress and advocacy, and we celebrated with friends this past Saturday. This year, we decided to recognize political courage where we saw it this year. Congrats to all the elected officials that were awarded:

Senator Scott Wiener

Senate champion of the year

Senator Wiener has been a close ally in the senate for years. This year, we sponsored SB-79, his signature bill that will lead to denser housing around transit stops. The senator is also a big champion for transit funding, active transportation funding, and building a more sustainable California.

Assemblymember Mark Gonzalez

Assembly champion of the year

Assemblymember Gonzalez topped the charts in our upcoming State Report Card for 2025; his support of SB-79 and his courage in fighting for transit funding inspired us all.

The Assemblymember surprised us by giving Streets For All a certificate of recognition from the State Assembly!

Supervisor Lindsey Horvath

County champion of the year

Supervisor Lindsey Horvath moved mountains this year; she’s been pushing a county version of Measure HLA, and she’s been fighting for real safety improvements on PCH.

Justin Orenstein, Transportation & Legislative Affairs Deputy for Supervisor Horvath with Streets For All CEO Michael Schneider

Councilmember Eunisses Hernandez

Pedestrian champion of the year

Councilmember Hernandez does a lot for street safety as the chair of the Public Works committee, and she also voted against the city opposing SB-79. But her work at MacArthur Park especially inspired us this year, where she’s leading an effort to close Wilshire Bl to cars and reconnect the two sides of the park that have been disconnected since the 1930s.

Councilmember Nithya Raman

Urbanist champion of the year

Councilmember Raman has been a close ally on the L.A. City Council since her election in 2020, and we were proud to support her reelection last year. Her work in Griffith Park we found especially inspiring this year; after the tragic death of Andrew Jelmert in April of 2022, the Councilmember closed Griffith Park Dr to cars. This year, she pushed a plan forward to close upper Crystal Springs to cars, and is working on other safety improvements throughout the park.

Councilmember Katy Yaroslavsky

Budget champion of the year

As chair of the Budget Committee, Councilmember Yaroslavsky successfully fought back against the Mayor’s proposed elimination of 1,600 positions, which would have been devastating to the departments that improve safety on our streets. We were also inspired by her recent speeches at council pushing back against a convention center expansion that we can’t afford, and declaring that public safety must include the condition of our streets and sidewalks.

Councilmember Heather Hutt

Visionary champion of the year

Councilmember Hutt, as chair of the transportation committee, has been a very important ally for Streets For All. Thanks to her support (both political and financial), we successfully won over $5M for the city to push the extension of the Ballona Creek bike path forward. We were especially inspired this year by her call for more park space in Koreatown, and for pushing forward a plan to close 6th St to cars in Koreatown, and open it up to people.

Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez

Bike champion of the year

Councilmember Soto-Martinez created the first protected bike lanes in CD13, on Hollywood Bl. He’s now working on extending that project west to La Brea, and East to Sunset Bl. In addition, he’s come out publicly in support of Sunset4All, and is working on getting both protected bike lanes and bus-only lanes installed on Sunset Bl.

Councilmember John Erickson

Small city champion of the year

Councilmember Erickson (West Hollywood) has been a strong proponent of safer streets. This year, thanks to a motion he introduced three years ago, the city council took its final vote to install protected bike lanes and wider sidewalks on Fountain Ave, which will be the first protected bike lanes in the city of West Hollywood. The Councilmember also supported bus lanes on La Brea, and pushing the city to protect its existing bike lanes on Santa Monica Bl.

Congrats to all our champions!
